This morning I was in the Dunkin' Donuts getting my morning large-iced-with-skim-and-two-Equals, when a disheveled man came up to the counter and started asking everyone in earshot if they could spare a dime.

"Just a dime so I can get a stamp," he said. "I almost have enough for a stamp."

I handed him a dime.

He turned and plunked it into the tip jar, then wandered away.
